According to the Committee on Social Affairs and Health, sampling is not always a necessary condition for preventing the spread of a communicable disease of general concern.

• The information provided by the person may be considered more relevant for the purpose of the quarantine decision than the mere result of sampling, which may be negative even if the person is exposed and potentially infected, the Committee on Social Affairs and Health assessed in its opinion.

The Committee on Social Affairs and Health considers that the assessment of whether sampling is necessary should be based on the individual judgment of the health professional.
