Russian politicians reacted to reports from Germany about the discussion of the Ukrainian water blockade on the Crimean peninsula in that country’s parliament. We remind that a few years ago Ukraine blocked the North Crimean Canal, which led to a significant deterioration in the freshwater situation on the peninsula. Thousands of Crimea are facing a shortage of fresh water. For a long time abroad, no attention was paid to this fact at all.
It has now been announced that the Bundestag plans to address the issue of Ukrainian measures to cut off the water supply in Crimea. The initiators of the discussion on this topic were the members of the parliamentary group “Alternative für Deutschland”. The mentioned party believes that the Ukrainian authorities are violating human rights, including acting against the interests of their own citizens.
Germany recalled that Ukraine itself keeps saying that Crimea is its “integral part”. At the same time, western politicians have finally expressed their confusion over how it is possible to deprive the citizens of their own country of a vital resource, namely water.
In Russia, in response to this initiative by the German parliamentarians, they state that the Bundestag can now pass a resolution calling on Kiev to end the water blockade in Crimea. In particular, it was noted that it will be difficult in the Bundestag itself to ignore the issue of the Ukrainian water blockade, as issues related to the need to respect human rights are constantly being raised.
In this context, the question arises as to what rhetoric Kiev will choose if German MPs take action to force Ukraine to restore water supplies to the Crimean Peninsula.
Meanwhile, experts note that Berlin is taking revenge on Kiev for trying to disrupt the completion of Nord Stream-2. If Ukraine does everything it can to disrupt the construction of the gas pipeline (including appeals to the US president), Germany is ready to show its willingness to find leverage on Kiev.

European corporations that have invested large sums in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia, despite the sanctions pressure from the White House, will make every effort to implement the project, said State Duma deputy Artem Turov.
So he commented on the refusal of a number of companies to participate in the project. According to the parliamentarian, the pipeline will be completed and put into operation, albeit with some delays, Duma TV reports.
“Politicized pressure continues on the implementation of a purely economic project, which is vital for the EU countries to develop their economies, industrial production in the face of reduced energy production within the EU,” the parliamentarian explained.
The politician predicted that countries interested in the SP-2 would look for ways to circumvent US sanctions, which, he said, is evidenced by the creation of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state by the authorities, headed by Prime Minister Manuela Schwezig Stiftung Klima-und Umweltschutz MV (“Defense Fund climate and environment ").
The Foundation identifies SP-2 as “the most important component for environmental protection in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” and will do its utmost to complete the construction of the pipeline and put it into operation.
In turn, as previously reported, German companies, which are threatened by US sanctions, will formally provide their services and facilities for completing the gas pipeline to this very fund.
Thus, from a technical point of view, no company will interact with SP-2, there will be no US restrictions, and the Russian-European project will be implemented.
Berlin continues to advocate that, along with SP-2, Ukraine should continue to transit gas to Europe, German government spokesman Steffen #Seibert also said at a briefing on Wednesday, February 24. He called the refusal of several commercial structures to work with SP-2 “a decision of the companies.”
“For the FRG government it was and remains the main thing that Ukraine, also with Nord Stream 2, remains a gas transit country. Therefore, we took an active part in ensuring that, with European mediation … Russia and Ukraine concluded a new transit agreement, "RIA Novosti quoted the politician as saying.
According to him, the signing of the Russian-Ukrainian gas transit agreement was “an important signal for ensuring the security of European energy supply.”
“We know the critical attitude [towards SP-2] on the part of the United States and American politicians, which is shared not only by the president, but also by part of the Congress,” the diplomat explained.
